The New Battle Line

Answering the question, “what is post-modern thought?” is like trying to catch a cloud in a jar…even if you think you have, most likely you are deluding yourself. Such is the challenge the Church has when facing a new philosophy that has literally taken hold of America, and in some countries (mostly Europe) has evolved in even more alarming ways.

The Christian Church faces a tough challenge, in the past (the 30-60’s) the front line of the battle against the world (1 John 2:15, 16) and Satan (1 Peter 5:8) has always been over truth. The particular truth being fought has shifted much like the front line in a battle shifting from one front to another, but the lines were clearly drawn and it was easy to identify friend from foe.

I believe the biggest problem in the Church today is that the enemy (The world, and the devil) has opened up a whole new battle line, one far removed from the old battle line of truth, and the Church has not shifted to meet the new threat. The old line centered on the battle for truth and believers were prepared to die on the field for the deity of Christ, the trinity, biblical authority, and many others (as they should). But truth is no longer the battle line! Keeping the metaphor, the Church continues to gear up for a war in Europe when the battle is now in the Americas. The new battle line is philosophy of truth, it is no longer truth.

It is not uncommon today to here statements like, “I believe what you are saying, but I also believe what the Jehovah’s witnesses say.” People no longer believe that truth claims are concrete, they can conflict and still be acceptable. This kind of thinking is so foreign to the Church that we have been caught off guard and no longer have a response. Our old weapons no longer apply in this war and we haven’t developed new ones to replace them. Therefore, we have been caught off guard by a new front with outdated weapons and we are quickly loosing the war (keeping with the metaphor).

How should we face this new attack on the Christianity? What weapons should we employ to fight against new questions being thrown at us? How do we shift the “line of battle” to meet the offensive that Satan is bringing against us? I believe the answers to these questions are vital and this site attempts to answer each one. But before we embark on such a task we must first commit to seeking the answers from one place: the Bible. Biblical truth is the only weapon powerful, and effective enough to defeat the devil, his lies, and the world’s system of thinking and belief.

I am not saying the truth has changed, but rather its application to life has changed. This is our weapon, biblical truth applied to worldly thinking! Every time worldly thinking opens up a front we can quickly gain the victory in our own lives and the lives of those we minister to by applying biblical truth to the lie the world peddles. May we have victory through the power of the HOLY Spirit and the Word of God.
